Peter Laul was born in St.Petersburg in 1977 . In 2000 he graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatoire (class of Alexander Sandler) He is a laureate of international competitions:
1995  – the 3rd prize and the special prize for the best performance of Bach  at the  International piano competition in Bremen;
1997 – the 1st prize and the special prize for the best performance of Schubert Sonata at the International piano competition in Bremen;
2000 – winner of the 2nd Scriabin International Piano Competition (Moscow).

Peter Laul is a versatile, brilliant pianist of the younger generation. He actively performs recitals at famous venues in St. Petersburg, Moscow, the Louvre (Paris), the Orsay Museum (Paris) and the Théâtres de Châtelet et de la Ville (Paris), Steinway Hall and Lincoln Center (New York), Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Vredenbourg (Utrecht), Die Glocke (Bremen), Casino (Basel), Le Corum (Montpellier), Opera City Hall (Tokyo), Theatre La Monnaie (Brussels), Opera Garnier (Paris), Lyon Opera (France), and many other halls in Russia, Germany, France, Great Britain, Austria, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Turkey, the USA, Brazil and Japan.

He has taken part in festivals in Colmar and Saint-Riquier (France), in the Progetto Marta Argerich festival (Lugano), Art-November (Moscow), Printemps des Arts (Monaco) and many others.

Orchestras with which he regularly cooperates include the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Dessau, Bremerhaven and Oldenburg Theatre Orchestras, Honoured Ensemble of Russia, The Voronezh, Kazan, Samara, Karelia and North Caucasus Philharmonic conducted by Maxim Shostakovich, Nikolai Alexeev, Vladimir Ziva, Vasily Sinaisky, Felix Korobov, Tugan Sokhiev and Jean-Claude Casadesus.

The pianist dedicates  particular attention to chamber music. His regular partners are Ilya Gringolts, Maxim Vengerov, Victor Tretiakov, Graf Mourja, Alena Bayeva, Alexander Ghindin, Sergey Levitin, David Grimal, Laurent Korcia and Marc Coppey.

Peter Laul can be heard in programs of Radio France Classique (France), Radio Bremen (Germany), Radio Orpheus (Russia), as well as in programs of TV channels Arte (France), Kultura, RTR, St. Petersburg – Channel 5. His discographie includes several solo and chamber recordings for Naxos, Aeon, Onyx Classics, BIS, harmonia mundi, Querstand, Integral Classic, King Records and Northern Flowers. Among his most prominent recordings are works by Scriabin (2006), the complete  Brahms’ Trio and Cello Sonatas (2007, 2008), the complete Schumann’s  violin sonatas and trios (2010) and the complete Stravinsky’s violin sonatas (2016).

In 2003 he was awarded the badge of honor of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation “For achievements in culture”.
